Pack 1882 is committed to providing every Scout with a safe, welcoming, and high-quality program. Training gives our adult volunteers the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need to lead engaging meetings, organize memorable activities, and support every child’s growth.
You do not need previous Scouting experience to become a leader. Scouting America provides online, self-paced training for each volunteer position, and experienced Pack leaders are available to help you along the way.
Most required training is available through Scouting America's Training Center page. To start,

Complete the Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) course
Complete the learning plans registered to your position.
Whether you lead a den, organize an event, serve on the Pack Committee, or help behind the scenes, your training directly contributes to a safer, stronger, and more memorable Scouting experience for every child.
Safeguarding Youth Training is required for every registered adult volunteer and must be completed before registration. It explains Scouting America’s youth-safety policies, including appropriate adult supervision, barriers to abuse, required reporting, and the prohibition against one-on-one contact.
Safeguarding Youth Training must be renewed annually. Maintaining current training is required to renew your adult registration.
Each registered leader should complete the training assigned to their role. The Learn Center will create a learning plan based on your registered position, such as:
Position-specific training explains the responsibilities of your role and provides practical guidance for planning meetings, delivering the Cub Scout program, working with families, and supporting advancement.
When a registered leader completes Safeguarding Youth Training and all required training for their position, they are considered a trained leader and may wear the official “Trained” emblem on their uniform.
Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of Roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on policy, events, and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders.
Thunderwolf District Roundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month, 7:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Missouri City (3900 Lexington Blvd, Missouri City, TX 77459).

BALOO prepares Cub Scout leaders to plan and conduct safe, enjoyable Pack camping experiences. The course includes an online prerequisite and an instructor-led overnight outdoor session.
At least one BALOO-trained adult must be present at every Pack overnight activity. Pack 1882 encourages multiple adults to complete BALOO so trained leaders are available for every camping opportunity.
Hazardous Weather Training helps leaders recognize, prepare for, and respond to weather-related risks during outdoor activities. Direct-contact leaders must complete it to be considered trained for their positions. The training is completed online through Scouting America Training Center.
We encourage every Pack 1882 adult who regularly participates in outdoor activities to complete this course.
Training does not end after the required online courses. Leaders can continue learning through council and district workshops, monthly roundtables, University of Scouting programs, outdoor-skills courses, and collaboration with other Pack leaders.
Pack 1882’s experienced volunteers will help you get started, share resources, answer questions, and support you as you grow into your role. No leader works alone—we succeed by planning, learning, and serving together.
