Cub Scout Pack 1882 is a cub scout pack for kids 5-11 years old (Grades K - 5) operating out of the Commonwealth Elementary School and Anne Sullivan Elementary. There are currently about 30 kids in the pack. The Pack consists of smaller units called Dens, which typically contain 5-8 members. Dens are organized by age: Lion Dens for Kindergartners, Tiger Dens for first graders, Wolf Dens for second graders, Bear Dens for third graders, and Webelos Dens for fourth and fifth graders. During fifth grade, or when a child turns 11, they move from Cub Scouts into Scouts.
Our Pack 1882's chartering organization is the Exchange Club of Sugar Land. Pack 1882 is part of a larger organization called the Thunder Wolf District, which is part of the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC), which in turn is part of the national organization called Scouting America.
For the fall 2026 calendar we are planning to meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Anne Sullivan Elementary. We plan to use this time for larger pack meetings and then break into smaller den meetings. Depending on the number of scouts and dens, each den can look to coordinate their own meeting schedule, which typically can be just 1-2 times per month.
Pack meetings are where all scouts and families gather. These meetings are usually held during the school year, August through May. Meetings include activities, planning for upcoming pack events, awards, games and time to bond as a larger pack. For start of the 2026-2027 school year we are planning on meeting weekly as we look to build up and establish our dens.
Scouts are grouped together into small grade level groups, called Dens. Size of the dens can vary, but we try to keep it less than 10 kids in a den. As we are a growing pack, we currenlty only have one den per grade level, but as the pack grows this may expand into multiple dens per grade. Each den works towards a rank badge. Dens are typically led by 1-2 trainined adult leaders, typicaly parents of scouts in the den and supported by other parents in the den.
Per Scouting America Policy we must have at least two (2) youth protection trained adults, 21+, present at every den meeting or event.
For the start of the 2026-2027 school year we plan to have smaller break outs during the weekly pack meetings to help facilitate the growth of our dens.
In addition to the pack meetings, we try to have 1-2 additional outings a month. These may include hikes, picnics, community service projects, the Pinewood Derby, Rain Gutter Regatta, camping, star gazing, and other family oriented activites. Many activities are at no extra cost, but some activities may require an additional cost to participate.
Pack 1882 is part of the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) and more specifically the Thunder Wolf District. Both the council and district offer events throughout the year, including campouts, rocket days, and summer camps. Check out the district calendar for more details.
Cub Scouting is a family adventure. Children have the most meaningful and memorable experience when parents, guardians, and caregivers participate alongside them. Your involvement helps make our meetings, outings, service projects, and special events successful—and shows your child that their Scouting journey matters to you.
Pack 1882 is powered entirely by volunteers. We understand that every family has different schedules, commitments, and talents, so there are many ways to help. Whether you can volunteer regularly or assist with a single activity, every contribution makes a difference.
Volunteering might mean serving as a Den Leader, organizing an activity, helping with Pack communications, supporting an event, sharing a skill, or simply lending a hand when needed. The time you spend supporting the Pack strengthens our Scouting community and, most importantly, creates experiences and memories with your child that will last a lifetime.
